Kona Hecht
May 30, 1996 – October 23, 2006
We had to tearfully send our beloved Golden, Kona, to the bridge this past Monday, October 23rd. He had been stricken very suddenly with a fatal heart ailment that led to internal bleeding. We adopted Kona via a referral from GRRCC on Christmas Day in 1998, and since then he brought nothing but joy and love into our household.
Anyone who came in contact with him fell in love with him instantly. His love for all things, other animals, his toys (especially his beloved tennis balls!) and his family is something that I will NEVER forget. He asked for nothing, and gave everything.
Seeing him waiting for me by the door when I came home from work was the highlight of my day, as if he was trying to say “Where have you been, I missed you!” It always amazed me how much he could say, without saying anything. We can all learn a lesson from that. I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, and I know that I will see him again some day.
As agonizing a decision that it was to do it, I know that it was the right decision; I would swear that when he left, he had a smile on his face and nothing but unwavering and unconditional love for us in his eyes. He was my BEST friend, and I miss him terribly.
