Golden Retriever TemperamentWhat exactly is temperament, anyway? A good temperament definition in regard to dogs reads as follows: “the combination of mental, physical, and emotional traits of a dog; the manner of thinking, behaving, or reacting characteristic of a specific dog.” The Golden Retriever’s kindly expression says it all. This is one of the finest family dogs in the world: cheerful, demonstrative, trustworthy, and forgiving of mistakes. The Golden Retriever temperament is an even, friendly one. They never seem to have a bad day! There are basically no differences in the personalities between males and females and you’ll find the personalities to be almost exactly the same. They are well mannered, intelligent and gentle dogs that are easily trained and are patient with children. Goldens are very playful and clownish much into their adult years. They love to go places and discover new things and meet new people. They are very social. Yes, a Goldens’ job is to make sure everyone they meet is their new best friend. If you don’t like meeting new people, this is not the dog for you and your family. Spending time with your Golden will make him a very happy canine! Goldens love to put things in their mouths! They have to be watched very carefully when they are young so they don’t eat anything that could be dangerous. They can also eat your sofa, so keep an eye on your rascal! There’s one thing that almost all Goldens want you to know about them – they love to play fetch. Throw a ball and watch them run! A little known Golden Retriever fact (unless you already own one) is that they are big “talkers.” This is just another trait of their irresistible charm! Whether you come home two hours late, forget his dinner bowl, or accidentally step on his tail, he’ll forget it ever happened once you smile at him. Newspaper accounts document the fact that even traumatic events like abuse, abandonment and accidents don’t affect a Golden for any great length of time.
