Guinness
Feb. 14, 2000- Sept. 8, 2006
I wanted to write to you all to let you know that Guinness
was put down today. I took him into the vet this morning for another biopsy,
but he was too sick. He was whining from pain, and very lethargic. I dropped
him off, but the vet called me with the news. He was ready to go, even
though selfishly I wasn't ready to let him. But are we ever ready for them
to go? I am pretty broken up as you can imagine. I cry on and off. As you
all know, I love my dogs. I am an advocate for rescuing dogs. I work with
several organizations that help me fulfill this need. I have always felt
compelled to fight for these animals because they can't fight for
themselves. Guinness helped me to do this...
I wanted to say a few words to remember him. I met
Guinness on petfinder.org in February 2004. I fell in love immediately
through his picture. He was the sweetest Valentine's present I have ever
gave myself. :) Guinness was such a sweet dog from the very beginning and
had never met a stranger. He loved all creatures big and small. This dog was
such a fine specimen of what a Golden Retriever is and a true testament to
what the rescued dog can be.
I remember when
Crissie Boley met him for the first time. LOL She is very afraid of big
dogs, and Guinness would always breathe heavily. She thought he was going to
bite her, until she spent a few hours with him. She fell in love with his
adorable face, and his sweet demeanor. There hasn't been a person who met
Guinness yet that didn't fall in love with him… how appropriate that he was
born on Valentine ’s Day! He really was the sweetest dog I have ever owned.
He did so much for the breed and for act of rescuing an animal when he would
work the booths at different events for the Golden Retriever Rescue Club of
Charlotte. He was a dog with a true purpose. He helped people open their
hearts and adopt one of the millions of dogs who need homes each year. For
that, I know that God will treat him well now that he is in heaven...
I loved him, and I know many of you did as well. I
appreciate all of the love that Guinness felt from all of you. You all had a
part in making Guinness's life so full because the first part of his life
was so grim. Before I adopted Guinness he suffered a cracked spine from
someone beating him. Can you imagine someone doing this to this sweet, sweet
dog? So, I would like to thank all for helping him see the joy that life
could offer.
I can't wait until the day that I see Guinness and Elvis
at the pearly gates wagging their tails in excitement to see me again! I
know that they are well taken care of until I can get there...
Rest in peace my
sweet boy...You will never be forgotten.
Cindy
