In
Loving Memory of
Rusty
1994 - August 31, 2006
Rusty’s is a sad tale that we hear variations of all too often. He was
raised from a puppy and much loved by an elderly couple. First the wife
passed away and then, shortly after moving in with his son, the husband
followed. The son told his Dad he
would keep Rusty and all was fine for a while. The son had two other
dogs which were kept outside and Rusty made number three. Unfortunately
there was a county ordinance that limits a home to only two outside dogs.
A neighbor reported
them to Animal Control. Taking the Animal Control Officer’s suggestion,
the son contacted GRRCC and we of course, took this lovely gentleman.
Everything had been going fine for Rusty…he was
settling into his foster home nicely and had families interested
in meeting and maybe adopting him. Shortly after coming into the program, his
dog savvy foster mom realized he wasn’t acting right. There wasn’t
anything she could pinpoint; it was just that 6th sense that
good dog people have that there is just ‘something wrong’. A quick trip to
the vet confirmed her worst fears. Despite excellent blood work results
just 2 weeks prior, x-rays confirmed that Rusty was bleeding
internally from several places, was clearly in pain and would, in all
likelihood, not live through the night. There was only one decision to be
made that was fair to this lovely, stoic Golden. Rusty made his final
journey, held in loving arms and with the peace and dignity he so
rightfully deserved.
Rusty is back with his "Mom" and "Dad", the couple who
raised him from a puppy and loved him for eleven wonderful years.
They have all
happily
crossed the Bridge, together again.
