In
Loving Memory of
CONNOR
2002 - July 27, 2007
Connor was given to GRRCC by a kind woman who had taken him in when he
showed up as a stray, but was unable to keep him. From the moment we got him
two things were clear. First, that even though he had obviously not been
shown much kindness in his young life, he was an exceptionally sweet dog
with an incredibly gentle spirit. Sadly, the second was that he was a very
sick boy with a heavy load of heartworms and various and un-related
breathing and liver function issues. His foster family set about loving him
for all they were worth and he was making great progress; living the ‘good
life’ and learning that people are a source of joy and not fear.
Unfortunately we were not seeing the same progress on the medical front. In
fact, we were going
backwards.
For every one thing we treated, another manifested itself. Certain blood
values that were normal one month, were seriously elevated the next. His
decreased liver function was the greatest concern (even more so than the
heartworm load) and he was scheduled for a visit to the Internal Medicine
practice at the local Specialty Hospital. Just days before his appointment,
Connor took a drastic turn for the worse. Although with the typical stoicism
of this wonderful breed he never complained, he was clearly telling us it
was time for him to go. With heavy hearts, we listened.
Connor was not able to have the long life he so deserved. However, thanks
to his wonderful foster family, he was able to know love. Because of them,
none of us have any doubts that the last 3 ½ months of his life were by far
his happiest.
Run free and healthy now Connor…and know you were loved.
