Can you help make a difference for
Cody?
My
name is Cody and I need your help. I have just entered GRRCC because I have
severe hip dysplasia. I am only 10 months old and both of my hips are so bad
that I need total hip replacements. If complete hip replacements can not be
done, at minimum I will need both of my femur balls removed in order not to be
in pain. I am not sure which one yet because I will not be going to see Dr. Daye
until November 12th. I do know that GRRCC has had an enormous amount of expenses
this year and they were not expecting me to come along. But here I am and they
really want to help me. I am told that I am way too special to be euthanized,
but I just can’t live in this pain that I have been enduring. Not only are my
femur balls not in the sockets, I do not have any hip sockets! I think they put
some pictures of my hips at the bottom of the page so you can see how bad they
are. GRRCC wants to do what is best for me, and if I am a candidate for total
hip replacements they know that would be better in the long run. Big dogs like
me do better with hip replacements instead of just having the femur balls
removed. They tell me my problem is expensive. Each hip will cost $3200.00 and
if I end up getting only the femur balls removed that cost will be at least
$1200.00 per side. I am willing to take what I can get and I would appreciate
any help you could give me. I just need whatever it takes to stop the pain and
be able to play.
I
realize the economy has been tough lately, and for that reason I hate to have to ask.
I also know that GRRCC holds a number of fundraisers every year, but all of that
money has to be used to take care of so many other dogs that come into their
program. So you see, they just don’t have all of that money sitting around to
take care of me. I know they really want to do what is going to be the best for
me, and they just can’t without asking for a little extra support. They have had
a lot of Goldens pass through their doors during the last couple of months, and
many of them were very sick.
I’m
a really good boy, I love to give kisses, I have a wonderful disposition and I
would love to have a long and happy life. I haven’t been here long, but I have
already heard a lot of great stories about other Goldens that come into GRRCC
and are adopted by wonderful families. I want to be one of those too. If you are
in a position to help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I am hoping to get a
head start with raising my money, so when I see Dr. Daye in November I will be
ready to start my surgeries.
Can you contribute a small amount
in honor of or in memory of that special dog that touches or has touched your
life? Can you make it possible for me to be pain free?
All
donations are tax deductible, GRRCC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. If
GRRCC reaches this goal for me, any additional funds that I help raise will
remain in Casey's Miracle Fund and be used solely to help save the life of
another Golden Retriever like me.
Please help me.
Love, Cody

Thank you to everyone who has
helped Cody!
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, Cody
received his first new hip. He was not a "happy camper" for a few
days, but he is now on the road to recovery.
Usually after these
surgeries, a dog can get around three-legged, until the new hip feels
good enough and is strong enough to support them. Cody was having a
lot of trouble with this, since his other hip would not support his
weight. He was being helped along with a towel, used like a sling,
to help support him. He didn't like this one bit!
On Saturday, only three days
after his surgery, Cody was feeling MUCH better. He was even able to
get around some on his own!
Cody will now have about 12
weeks of recovery time from this surgery while we are working to get ready
for his second hip.
Cody sends a very special
thank you to everyone who helped get him this far. Without a lot of
people coming together, this would not have been possible. We still
have a long way to go to get ready for Cody's second hip. If you can
help, Cody (and everyone at GRRCC) will be very grateful. |

February 2003 - Update
Cody is doing well and
continues to improve with the use of his new hip. We thought
everyone would like to see a recent picture of him standing! Cody
has had some complications with different medications. This has
slowed his recovery to some degree, but now that his doctor feels we have
figured out what he can and can not take, we should be on the road to hip
number two.
We will keep you posted as
we work our way to giving Cody his second new hip. Thank you again
to everyone who has helped make this possible for Cody.
Donations are still needed
and very much appreciated! |

February 20, 2003 - Update
Cody had his second hip
replacement on February 19th and he is already standing up and trying to
walk.
His surgery was difficult
because the muscle had to be stretched to get the new femur ball into the
new hip socket. Cody did get a pain patch this time so he is actually in
pretty good spirits. He was alert and ready to go the morning when he was
picked up from the hospital.
Cody thinks he is ready to
run a marathon but that will be a little farther down the road.
GRRCC is so very grateful to
everyone that helped make this possible. Cody sends big sloppy
kisses to each and everyone of you!
Thank you all so very much!
